8-BIT DRAWERS Storage Cabinet-Bookcase-Bookshelves by Gilli Kuchik of Bakery Design Studio (2011)

The 8-BIT DRAWERS Storage Cabinet-Bookcase-Bookshelves was designed in 2011 by Gilli Kuchik who, along with co-designer Ran Amitai, form Bakery Design Studio.

According to the designer: “The 8-BIT DRAWERS project is rooted in simple yet illusive truth about drawers: Each drawer is an individual entity, that once combined with another drawer or drawers, forms a new whole.

This truth led to a search of the individual/fragment/pixel within the group/whole/picture.

The result is a collection of individual drawers each in a different color that together form a new image.”

Bakery Design Studio was founded in 2009. The studio consists of designers Ran Amitai (born in 1980) and Gilli Kuchik (born in 1983). The designers met and became a couple in life and in design during their studies at the Department of Industrial Design at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem Israel.

The designers believe in a design process based on hands-on experimentation and play with materials and technologies while finding new ways of interpreting traditional production methods and object typologies.

Gilli and Ran live and work in Tel Aviv, Israel.
