ALESSANDRA Armchair by Spanish designer Javier Mariscal for MOROSO

The ALESSANDRA Armchair was designed by the well-known Spanish designer Javier Mariscal in 1995 as part of Los Muebles Amorosos Collection for the Italian company of MOROSO.

It is available in fabric or leather in a collage/patchwork of bright colors or in black & white (fondly reminding us of these cute and useful to us animals, namely cows) and represents a departure from straight lines and geometry towards organic forms and shapes.

Javier Mariscal was born in 1950 and has built his international career out of the beautiful city of Barcelona. In 1989 he created Estudio Mariscal and, ever since, he has been giving us beautiful creations in the fields of Design and Architecture (and beyond …) assisted always by his excellent team of resident experts.

MOROSO has been working in close collaboration with some of the world’s most talented designers to produce luxury sofas and seating since 1952. It is, indeed, one of the top 10 most forward-thinking and innovative furniture manufacturers worldwide.

Today the Company is headed by the second generation of the Moroso family (Roberto Moroso, the CEO, and Patrizia Moroso, the Art Director) and is an example of how a small Italian artisan-owner company has evolved since it was run until the 90s by Agostino Moroso. The Company has always been open to new ideas, from its origins in post-war Italy where there was a culture of “doing things and doing them well.” MOROSO has been far-sighted, daring and certain of the advantage of combining craftsmanship and tailoring with industrial processing techniques to create unique products and by drawing on the worlds of industrial design, contemporary art and fashion.

As Patrizia Moroso points out: “The story of Moroso is the story of our relationships with designers, people who, with intelligence and with the passion which always inspires artists in the face of beauty, are trying to change the world for the better. I ask them not to imagine a single object, but to imagine a new world and project it into the future.”
